The late Maria Ioannis Baganha was a leading migration scholar at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra. She was one of IMISCOE's founding members and chair of its board of directors until she passed away in June 2009. To commemorate her work in the field of migration studies and particularly for the network, the IMISCOE Board of Directors has decided to dedicate the IMISCOE Dissertation Award to her. This annual prize will be awarded to the best IMISCOE dissertation in the field of migration, integration and social cohesion in Europe.
The award's prize is 2,500 euro. There will also be an opportunity to have the dissertation published in the IMISCOE-Amsterdam University Press Research series, subject to IMISCOE Editorial Committee decisions.
Dissertations must demonstrate a significant contribution to migration and integration studies in one or more of these criteria:
· research quality
· new area of research
· methodological and/or empirical innovation
· significant conceptual and/or theoretical contribution to its field
· potential impact for policymakers, practitioners and/or other research users.
Any IMISCOE member whose dissertation was defended during the 24-month period before the deadline for submission of 15 March 2010 is eligible to apply for the prize. For more information on application and review procedures and an application form please consult the attached document.
