DIOC is a database compiled by the OECD on the immigrant populations in the countries belonging to the organization. The database provides micro-data from the population censuses of these countries, in particular, the naturalness and nationality of migrants and their demographic characteristics, level of education, insertion in the labor market and length of stay. The bases designated DIOC-E include less detailed information on censuses conducted in OECD and non-OECD countries (around 100). +
The Observatory, with authorization from the OECD, extracted the information on Portuguese emigrants from the DIOC, making available, with free access, on this page the bases thus constituted. A Portuguese emigrant was defined as any person born in Portugal residing abroad.
Data from the DIOC on Portuguese emigrants aged 15 or over born in Portugal and residing in 2000/2001 in one of the OECD countries. The total number of valid cases, gathered in the databases, varies between 21,684 and 1,260,249, depending on the files.
