In this lecture given by Professor Catherine Wihtol de Wenden, the issues and relations between migrations, borders and mobility rights are addressed, speaking of the inversion of logic between emigration/immigration with the appearance and disappearance of borders. It is also questioned the control of mobility, presented as a possible solution to current migration issues, a blurring of the same.
About the speaker
Catherine Wihtol de Wenden is the research director emeritus at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, specializing in international migration. She is also a researcher at the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation, Sciences Po Paris University. Her research interests focus on international migration, international relations, and the exploration of a citizenship and political science approach to migration. He has published over 20 books, including La question migratoire au XXIe siècle (Presses de Sciences Po, 2017), Immigration: chance or menace ? (Editions First, 2020), and Atlas des migrations. De nouvelles solidarités à construire (Editions Autrement, 2021).
About the moderator
Pedro Góis is a professor at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra and a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra, where he has done research in the area of international migration. He graduated in sociology at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra, where he obtained a Master's and a PhD in the same area, in the specialty of sociology of culture, knowledge and communication. His main research interests are transnationalism, Immigration in Portugal and Portuguese Emigration, among others.
