Emigration to the UK continues to decline to its lowest level in 24 years
Inês Vidigal
There were 2,766 Portuguese who entered the United Kingdom in 2024, according to data from the Department for Work and Pensions. That British agency accounted for a total of 677,474 foreigners in the United Kingdom, with the Portuguese representing 0.4% of that total. +

Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of Portuguese entering the UK fell by around 37%, from 4,414 in 2022 to 2,766 in 2024. This decrease means that the number of Portuguese entering British territory is at its lowest level in 24 years. This drop in Portuguese entries meant that the representation of Portuguese in British territory fell to a minimum (0.4%). This fall is likely to be associated with the new immigration rules for the United Kingdom post-Brexit.
