On April 8, the conference “Portuguese and Portuguese-descendant gatekeepers in Paris: trajectories and ethnicity” will be held with Dominique Vidal (URMIS/Univ. Paris), followed by a debate with Ana Saraiva (CRIA). Organized by the Anthropology Research Network Centre, the session takes place in room C1.03 of Iscte's building II, between 16h00 and 18h00.
On April 18th, the program “This is not so simple”, will be held in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Lisbon, starting at 5:30 p.m., with Dutch geographer and sociologist Hein de Haas as guest. At this meeting, the writer's new book will be presented and debated, in which many myths surrounding migration are shattered, based on statistics and incontrovertible facts.

On June 3rd, at 4pm, the webinar "International Migration and Migrant Communities - Impacts of COVID-19" will be held, as part of the series of webinars COVID-19: (Cons)Ciência Geográfica, promoted by the Centro de Estudos Geográficos (IGOT-ULisboa). The panel will be composed by Marta Bronzin (Head of IOM Mission in Portugal), Sónia Pereira (High Commissioner for Migration), João Peixoto (ISEG - ULisboa) and Juliana Iorio (CEG/IGOT - ULisboa), and will have as moderator Maria Lucinda Fonseca (CEG/IGOT - ULisboa).
A webinar will be held on May 20th at 2pm to mark the publication of the second edition of the book Migration and Mobility in the European Union, co-authored by Andrew Geddes, Leila Hadj Abdou and Leiza Brumat. This webinar will examine how past and current experiences of migration governance to, from and within the EU - in its various forms - can provide a guide to the dilemmas and challenges ahead from the current Covid-19 crisis.
A webinar on the effects of Covid-19 on migration and mobility, organised by the Migration Policy Centre and the Global Citizenship Observatory, (GlobalCit), will be held on 6 May at 3pm. This webinar, divided in three panels, will discuss issues on the impact of Covid-19 on citizenship, mobility in Africa and the effects and policy responses to Covid-19 in South America.
A webinar on migration and the coronavirus, organized by the Migration Policy Institute and the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility, will be held on March 24th at 3:30pm. It will discuss the state of the situation around the world, where experts will compare the current response (and rhetoric) with what was seen during previous major public health crises in the United States and internationally, and discuss how this may affect future mobility and international cooperation on issues such as humanitarian protection.
On March 4th, the fourth workshop of the cycle "Migrations and forced returns" will take place from 2:30pm. This fourth workshop will feature two communications from the researchers Magdalena Lopez, CEI-Iscte, and Yvette Santos, IHC-NOVA FCSH, and comments from Nuno Domingos, ICS-ULisboa, and Morgane Delaunay, Université Rennes 2 and Iscte.
Next January 27th, the collaborative seminar on sociology of law and violence will take place from 6:30 p.m. in Room C2.05, at ISCTE-IUL Building II, where the text “Not citizens, not real people. The Italian way of governing immigration through the criminal justice system” will be discussed. The text will be presented by the author, Professor Giovanni Torrente of the University of Turin, and commented by ISCTE Professor and CIES researcher António Pedro Dores.
On the next 16th and 17th of January will be held the presentation of the book Corpos resistentes -Imigração, racismo e trabalho agrícola nos EUA by Seth Holmes. The presentation session on January 16th will take place in the Auditorium of Escola Superior de Educação/Politécnico do Porto, from 6:30pm, with the presentation of the author and introduction of João Queirós. On January 17th it will take place at the Sala Polivalente do Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa, from 17h00, where the author will present the book, followed by a debate session with the presence of Cristiana Bastos, Jorge Malheiros, Sónia Pereira and Catarina Barata.
On January 23rd, the conference "Shifting Claims on Mobility in Times of Turbulence: The Politicization of Migration During the Oil and Subprime Crises in Switzerland" will take place at the Caiano Pereira Auditorium at the Sedas Nunes Building of ISCTE-IUL. This conference, part of the International Cycle of Doctoral Conferences on ESPP, will be attended by Professor Gianni D'Amato of the University of Nêuchatel as a speaker, of Professor José Carlos Pereira, Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences (CICS.NOVA.IPLeiria), as commentator.
The third workshop of the cycle "Emigration and return in Portugal" will take place from 2:30 p.m. on December 4th. The theme of this third workshop will focus on urban-rural territoriality and spaces of return, and will be composed of a communication by the doctoral student and researcher João Baía, and two comments that will be made by Professor Jorge Malheiros and Professor Amandine Desille, of IGOT.

On November 9th, the seminar "Negotiating Distance after Migration - Sending and Carrying Things Across Borders" will take place at the Institute of Social Sciences, in the Polyvalent room, at 10:30 am.

Paper co-authored by researchers from Emigration Observatory (OEm), of the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-IUL), University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL), focused on Portuguese qualified emigration. This study is part of the national publications on skilled labour emigration in 13 EU countries, edited by the European Commission's European Centre of Expertise (ECE) in the field of labour law, employment and labour market policy.

The International Symposium Health welfare in the age of superdiversity will take place next Friday, June 29th, at the ISCTE-IUL Grand Auditorium. During this week, under the Lisbon Sintra film Festival, it will be possible to see eight movies of José Vieira, made between 2002 and 2016, on emigration. In these films testimonies of Portuguese that emigrated to France are registered, some of clandestine form during Estado Novo, others that lived in slums and those who returned to the villages where they were born.
