Portuguese inflow into the Netherlands declined for the second consecutive year
Inês Vidigal
In the Netherlands 1,860 Portuguese entered in 2015, according to data from the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek. That Dutch organization counted a total of 174,733 foreign entries in the Netherlands, with the Portuguese representing 1.1% of this total. +

Since 2000, the number of Portuguese entries in the Netherlands has been variable. From 2000 to 2001, there was an increase in the number of entries, followed by a decrease until 2005, when the minimum value was registered in the series under analysis, with 830 Portuguese entering Dutch territory. There was a further increase of Portuguese entries between 2006 and 2008, more pronounced, and a new decrease between 2009 and 2011, similar to that of emigration to other countries in the context of the global financial crisis. In 2012 and 2013 there was a resumption of growth, reaching the highest values in the series under analysis: more than 2,000 Portuguese entries each year. From 2014, the data show a very slight decline in 2015, with inflows in the Netherlands to around 1,800 Portuguese per year.
The Netherlands is the tenth country where most Portuguese emigrate.
