Inês Vidigal
There were 857 Portuguese who, in 2015, entered the United States of America, according to data from the US Department of Homeland Security. In that year, that US agency accounted for more than one million foreign admissions in the United States (1,051,031), with the Portuguese accounting for 0.1% of the total. +

Since 2000, the number of Portuguese entries in the US has been variable. From 2000 to 2002, the figures were higher than 1,000 entries, and in 2001 the maximum value was registered in the series under analysis, with 1,601 Portuguese entering the United States. In 2003, there was a decrease: only 808 nationals entered the United States. From 2004 to 2006, there was a progressive increase, followed by a drop in 2007. Since 2008, the figures have been lower than 1,000 entries, with slight variations from year to year. In 2015, the number of entries decreased slightly again but still remained higher than the values observed at the beginning of the crisis.
