Emigration to Spain increased again in 2016

In 2015 6,638 Portuguese entered Spain, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (Padrón. Población por municipios). That Spanish agency accounted for a total of 455,679 entries of foreigners into Spain, being the Portuguese 1.5% of that total. +

From 2000 to 2015 there are three distinct phases in the Portuguese emigration to Spain. In the first phase, from 2000 to 2007, the number of entries registered a continuous increase, more pronounced and significant from 2003. In 2007, the maximum peak of the series in analysis, with the arrival of 27,178 Portuguese in Spain. From 2008 until 2013, there is a second, now decreasing, phase until 2009. In 2014, the third phase begins, with the resumption of the growth in the number of Portuguese entries into Spain, confirmed in 2015 and 2016. Spain was one of the few destinations for Portuguese emigration in which the number of entries increased in 2016.
