Slight decrease in 2015 of Portuguese emigration to Belgium
Inês Vidigal
According to OECD data, 3,442 Portuguese entered Belgium in 2015. That international organization counted a total of 149,155 foreign entries in Belgian territory, representing the Portuguese 2.3% of this total. +

Between 2000 and 2013, the number of Portuguese entries in Belgium increased steadily, with a slight fall in 2009 and 2010, similar to that experienced in emigration to other countries in the context of the global financial crisis. The years of 2008 and 2012 were the ones of higher growth, with rates above 30%. In 2013 occurred the peak of the series, with more than 4,300 entries. In 2014 there was a clear reversal of the trend in the recent years, with a sharp decline (-17%). The downward trend, although less marked, continued in 2015.
