Small decrease in the number of Portuguese entries into Japan in 2018
Inês Vidigal
According to OECD data, 259 Portuguese entered Japan in 2018. This international body counted a total of 519,683 foreigners entering Japanese territory, with the Portuguese not representing 0.1% of that total. +

After the growth that had been recorded since 2015, the number of Portuguese entries in Japan fell again in 2018 (-11.3%), although the number of foreign entries continued to grow. In 2017 the number of Portuguese emigrants entering Japanese territory had reached the highest figure of this century (292 entries), very different from the 94 entries recorded in 2011 (minimum value of the series under analysis). Portuguese emigration to Japan remains very low both in absolute terms, in the hundreds, and relative terms.
