Emigration to Norway breaks fall and increases in 2021
Inês Vidigal
According to Statistics Norway data, in 2021 576 Portuguese entered the country. That statistical institute counted a total of 46,607 entries of foreigners in Norwegian territory, with the Portuguese representing 1.2% of this total. +

The downward trend that had been seen since 2019 was interrupted in 2021, with the number of Portuguese arrivals in Norway growing again (+67.4%). Portuguese emigration to Norway is a recent phenomenon, with a peak in 2013 (815 entries), following accelerated growth since 2010. The lowest value of the time series under analysis (2001-2021) was recorded in 2003, when only 55 Portuguese citizens entered Norwegian territory. Despite the increase in 2021, Portuguese emigration to Norway still represents a very small fraction of the immigration to this country (1.2%).
