Despite the recovery registered in 2021, this is the second lowest value of the series, after in 2020, the Portuguese entry in the US reached the lowest value of the entire series under analysis. In 2019, Portuguese emigration to the US had increased and interrupted the decline that had been registered since 2017. With this figure, the number of Portuguese entering the US is still far from the figure recorded in 2001: 1,609, the highest in the period under review. In relative terms, Portuguese emigration to the US still represents a very small fraction of immigration in this country (0.1%).
